Oh Hey, Guess What, You're a Fetish Object

The latest issue of Marie Claire has an article by Ying Chu on the supposed phenomenon of "Asian trophy wives." The basic premise of the piece is that several recent instances of young, beautiful Asian women getting involved with older, rich white dudes—e.g., Wendi Deng and Rupert Murdoch, Ziyi Zhang and financier Vivi Nevo, violinist Jennifer Chun and George Soros—constitute some kind of culturally relevant trend. And that trend is icky, but icky in a totally different way than the normal ickiness you feel when an old guy shacks up with a much younger, hotter lady.

Now, I'm not about to pretend that race doesn't play a role in sexual attraction. And I won't pretend that the white man / Asian woman pairing—not unlike the black man / white woman pairing—don’t carry some heavy cultural baggage. But this particular attempt at sociological analysis does nothing to move the discussion forward.

First, there’s the baseless psychoanalysis. Take this, for example:

Were these tycoons consciously courting Asian babes? Do any of them qualify for the unnerving "yellow fever" or "rice king" moniker? It's unsavory to think so. But after two or three failed attempts at domestic bliss with women of like background and age, these heavy hitters sought out something different. Something they had likely fetishized.

Why is it "likely"? How could Chu possibly know this? (She doesn't quote any of the men directly.) Later, she suggests that these women might be marrying older white guys as some kind of "renegade" act against their straight-laced upbringing. Well gee, that’s nice and infantilizing. Even if you don't want to believe that there's genuine love in these relationships—a possibility Chu mentions briefly, but doesn't seem to give much credence to—isn't it possible that these women were attracted to—oh, I don’t know—money, power, glamour, security, adventure, or any of the other perfectly grown-up things these particular relationships might provide?

Lumping all of these couples together and then reducing their individual complexities to the point where it’s purely a racial calculation isn’t helpful or illuminating. I mean, take Woody Allen and Soon-Yi Previn, the couple that the piece leads off with. Does anyone out there really think the most problematic, uncomfortable part of that relationship is the racial difference?

Other bloggers, like LaToya Peterson over at Jezebel, have pointed out that the article casually reinforces as many stereotypes as it seems to want to dispel. ("Overachieving Asian good girls," "emotionally repressed Asian dads," and the continent-wide mandates to revere one’s elders are all presented as fact—within a single paragraph!) Jessica Wakeman at the Frisky calls Chu out for objectifying the women as much as their partners allegedly do. To wit: "Asians (in addition to African orphans) are hot commodities right about now—status symbols as prized as a private Gulfstream jet or a museum wing bearing your name (neither of which goes so well with a frumpy, aging first wife)."

Finally—and this is my beef with most un-nuanced discussions of "the Asian fetish"—the article doesn’t put much faith in the Asian women’s agency. Chu herself notes that most of the women she’s talking about are accomplished, educated professionals. Why, then, would she want to even suggest that they’re comparable to “concubines” and “mail-order brides”? Chu brings up globalization as a reason why Asian women are such “hot commodities” now, but it doesn’t seem to occur to her that globalization has also created more opportunities for foreign-born women to gain power, money, education—and entrée into upper social echelons on their own steam, with or without a “silver-haired Western suit.”

The kicker really finishes it off. “Asian women dating white men may never really know if it's a fetish thing,” Chu writes. Um, if you don’t know if your partner is only with you because of a “fetish,” you’ve got other problems to worry about. Does Chu really think her Asian sisters are that dumb?

Would Marie Claire have possibly run this piece if weren't written by an Asian woman? (Chu was born in Shanghai.) Or, for another thought experiment, try to imagine an article just like this, except about black women or Latina women. I can’t see it.

I’m glad Marie Claire wanted to run a think-piece about race—I just wish it hadn’t been this one.

GENERAL COMMENTS ON FOUR ARTICLES...

1) THE JEWS AND THEIR DECEITS BY ADOLF HITLER:

This excerpt is by the Nazi dictator himself, Adolf Hitler, from the book Main Kampf. He was regarded as the most powerful and influential leader during the World War 2. I find that this article is interesting because it shows the main reasons why Hitler was in deep hatred with the Jews. From my opinion, I respect both of the Jews and Hitler himself.

After some study and research on this particular subject, I found many facts and propagandas along the way. For Hitler, the reasons why I respected him because he shows the world how a small community or society can conquer a large number of countries. His wisdom and experiences are something that should be recognized and take as an example for today leader. He managed to battle with the superior power and win the the heart of the citizens. On the other hand, the Jews are known for their cunning and deceitful strategies. They managed to infiltrate the mind of people with their agendas without anyone noticing it. Beside that, they also gain control of the government without using any physical actions. Thus, I thinks that both side are the same attitude and agendas as their main motives is to gain control of the countries by using propagandas,

In my opinion, there should not be any religions or societies that need to be eradicated as every religions teach its followers not to practice the act of genocide among others.

2) Thinking Folly by Eckhart Tolle...

As a student, I'm strongly disagree with the author, Eckhart Tolle, whereas he said that thinking is not a must and thinking also is a disease. His statement that he feels right was by thinking, it creates an opaque screen of concepts, words, judgments, and definitions that blocks all true relationships. 

In my opinion, thinking is a must that needs to be present in all individual. By the process of thinking, one can differentiate the facts and fictions. It also can determine whether someone has the knowledge and experience in all sorts of aspects. Thinking also can help one to manage their life and devoted themselves to their respective religions. 

However, I'm agree with that sometimes thinking will become a disease because minority of individuals in a large society used the process of thinking to commit crimes, such as arms  robbery. This shows that sometimes thinking can make one become viciousness and means if thinking is misused. 

Even in Islam it stated that looked for different kinds of knowledge even if it takes you to China. Thus, it shows that thinking is the most important part of life.

3) THE DEGREES OF HAPPINESS BY

From my stand, I disagree with this author as he stated that there are different level of happiness achieved by    every individuals in this world. As from what I can see, there is no such things as level in achieving pleasure because in the world, all happiness obtain by man is the same does not matter whether you are a great scientist or just a mere artist. According to Bertrand Russell, artists is less happier than the man in science.
This statement shows that the author are have put in his mind that every people who are involve in the science area will gain more happiness than the common people. 

All career in the world are just the same in term of its happiness achieved. From my opinion, it depends on whether one who choose the career will enjoyed the job given, he or she will feel the pleasure of working it. If not, definitely there will be a feeling of unsatisfied and stressed due to the career that they don't like. It is like being force to do it without our own's will.

Thus, there is level of happiness in life because the pleasure achieved is all the same by different sorts of people.

4) MEN AND WOMEN ARE MERELY PLAYERS BY ROBERT GREENE

Robert Greene states that people have to acquire the arts of indirection, learning to seduce charm, deceive or lie, and subtly out maneuver the opponents as a way to obtain the heights of power.

In this modern world of power and status, I must agree with Robert Greene as we must become a players in order to achieve what we want. We cannot be too naive as stated in the article as it shows our weaknesses to others and they can used it to stepped us. For example, in the government sector, there always news about bribery whereas they do it in order to gain status or to attain something. In this world of power play, one must not become a total naive as it will drive you to your obliteration. 

It is in the norms of society where the poor groups are being stepped down by the upper class due to their level of income. If one has the financial, status, and level in life, he or she will be respected by the society and can obtain whatever he or she wants.

However, I still cannot accept some of the ideas because in Islam, It teaches its followers not to discriminate other people as it shows the weakness of Islam. Thus, this method can be used in certain situation because if not, we will be fall down as discarded  by the society.

  

The Most Suspect Person For The Cases of Jack The Ripper....

Dr. Thomas Neil Cream

The Victims of Jack The Ripper:

This entry is mainly about the cases of Jack the Ripper. After finishing my presentation of Jack the Ripper, we were asked to make a post on the most suspected person to be Jack the Ripper. After done my research and observation, i would like to choose Dr. Thomas Neil Cream as the most wanted person for Jack the Ripper. These are my evidence to support the accusations that I have made:

1) A doctor who is specialized in abortion areas.

     = Dr. Thomas Neil Cream was a doctor that specialized in abortion. He got the skills in surgical procedure when he learned it in London, Canada and Chicago. Based on the autopsy, it shows that it is the works of someone who is specialized in abortions.

2)  He was attempted and accused of murders.

    = Dr. Thomas has poisoned his mistress'spouse due to certain motives during his lifetime. After being caught by the police, he was imprisoned in jail.

3) He was hanged and his last words is‘ I am Jack the….’

=According to some sources, there are eye- witnesses apart from the police officers  that heard this confession. Beside that, The eye-witnesses attendance in his execution day

I will share my own myth after learning the myth by famous philosopher, Plato. Here are my example of Plato myth based on my reading and experience :

In this case, I will choose the tragedy of 9/11 as my subject:

 The prisoners: 

 The people who are inside the buildings and also the Muslims especially Osama Bin Laden.

The chains: 

The case of the attack was still in progress as the White House cannot find the culprit yet. However, certain evidence shows that the tragedy was an inside job. But, the Pentagon and the White House accused a Muslim, Osama Bin Laden, as the main culprit that planned the attack.

 The fire: 

The deceiving of the previous United States President, Bush, has influenced the mind of its people by convincing them that the job was done by a terrorist, in this case, the Taliban. This is to cover up their own doing. 

The shadows and the images: 

President Bush as he is the one who are making the propaganda that caused the chaos for the Muslims's society.

The puppet players: 

The Pentagon and The White House itself as they never find a concrete evidence that shows Osama Bin Laden is the culprit of the attack. As can be seen, they are pretending to be innocent and naive by convincing its citizen that it was an terrorist attack. Yet, people can see their mistakes and propaganda.

The old man:

The citizens of United States and worldwide Muslim has became the solutions of this dilemma of 9/11. Many freelance investigator that are not bound by the government 

has prevails and reveals the work behind the attack of the World Trade Center. It shows that all the evidence points to the Government of the United States of America.

People has been tricked by the US Government as they are spreading the propaganda of wiping out the Muslims and as a ritual for the Illuminati.  By pointing their fingers at Osama Bin Laden, they will force an attack on Palestine in the motive of looking for Osama, but, the reality is they are killing others along the way.
